Why a new name? You’ll discover a number of God-ordained name changes in the Bible. The Bible says of Jerusalem in Isaiah 62.2, “You will be called by a new name, a name given by the LORD himself. ”
Jesus gave Simon a new name– Peter which means “the rock” (John 1.42). When Saul, a persecutor of the early church, became a follower of Jesus and started sharing the good news with the Gentiles, he was renamed Paul (Acts 13.9). The early church renamed Joseph of Cyprus Barnabas because he was such a source of encouragement to them.
Why StoneBridge? The Bible says in 1 Peter 2.5 that followers of Jesus are “like living stones [that are] being built into a spiritual house.” As living stones being joined together by God, we believe that we’ve been called to be a bridge leading to, and connecting people with the awesome God who loves them through Jesus Christ.
Why Community Church? A church name ought to be winsome, attractive, arouse curiosity, reflect a congregation’s character and convictions, and provide a sense of meaning as to why the church exists. We’re a church family that exists to glorify God and to share God’s love with our community– the whole community.
